Automatic Vehicle Locator grant received

Posted by Preston Co. Commission

The Preston County Commission has received a $15,000 grant from Chesapeake Energy to be used to help fund the Automatic Vehicle Locator System (AVL) which will be used by 911 operators.  Chesapeake’s donation will assist the county in putting local volunteer fire department and ambulance squads who want to participate on the system.  County Law Enforcement will also be using the AVL system.  “We could not offer the AVL to our local Fire Departments and Ambulance Squads without this generous donation from Chesapeake”, said Commission President Craig Jennings.  The Automatic Vehicle Locator system (AVL) is a companion to the new Computer Aided Dispatch (CAD) system that the county is installing.  When both systems are up and operational the Preston County E 911 will be the first county in West Virginia to be using the latest version of the Interact CAD.  Preston County E911 is also one of just a few counties in the state which will be using the CAD and AVL systems.
